CORPUS CHRISTI — Name: Dean Johnson

Title: President/owner

Name of business: Eagle Foundations Inc.

Address: 717 Southern St., Corpus Christi, TX 78404

Phone: 361 888-7738

Company description: Foundation repair, slab and pier-and-beam

Hometown: Corpus Christi

Years in business: Six

Education: Mary Carroll High School, 1972; some college while in Air Force.

First job: I was 14 and lied about my age to work at Dairy Queen. I learned responsibility and to have a work ethic — be on time and ready to work hard. The cash registers then didn’t tell you the customers’ change, so it really helped me with my math. It also made me realize the power of the dollar. With hard work, you could achieve your goals and get the things you desired.

Career break: I had been working for another foundation company. We had some basic differences. So with my current business partner, Bill Lipon, we decided to start Eagle Foundation and do it better. The foundation business can be tough. For most people, their home is their biggest investment. When their home is “broken,” people are worried and stressed. They deserve to be treated honestly and fairly.

Business turning point: Word-of-mouth referrals brought in business. With much urging from a lot of people, we also started Eagle Home Repair. It is both a challenging and satisfying way to interact with people.

Business philosophy: Treat others, as you would like to be treated. Do the right thing and always tell the truth.

How has your business changed with today’s economic climate? We are so fortunate to live in Corpus Christi. We haven’t had a significant drop in business due to the recession. Eagle Foundation has a great network of referrals from the city’s real estate professionals and from our own customer base.
