Unique business from Iceland – Eyjafjallajökull ash for sale

Posted by Paul Thompson on July 8th, 2010

On the 14th of April 2010 Europe suffered one of the most significant air transport collapses ever. Iceland’s volcano Eyjafjallajökull erupted for the first time in 200 years. The ash climbed up to an altitude of 10 km spreading all over Europe. You wander why I mention this well-known fact on my business blog? Well, for shifty entrepreneurs even a global catastrophe can become an inspiration.

Lava productions is a unique business that was started right after Eyjafjallajökull’s eruption and it offers a truly unusual product – little cans with volcanic ash, collected in Iceland. The cost of one can is $31.90 and it can be bought online on lavaproductions.org. The founders of this unusual business suppose that their product can be a perfect souvenir for those tourists who got stuck in airports all over Europe.

To be honest, I’m not quiet sure if people who suffered from eruption would want to have something that would remind them of lost time and money. At least I would definitely tried to forget about this nightmare. Anyway this interesting business idea is a great example of how creative people benefit from any situation.
